More Zune 2.0 Evidence

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 09:00 AM

Zunerama has an interesting picture up of what appears to be an authentic product list with prices for Zune 2 accessories. The price list they give is as follows:

  • Zune AC Adapter (V2) - $29.99
  • Zune Cable Pack (V2) - $39.99
  • Zune Car Pack (V2) - $79.99
  • Zune Dock Pack (V2) - $49.99
  • Zune Home AV Pack (V2) - $99.99
  • Zune Sync Cable (V2) - $19.99

I’ll be honest though, the prices given here don’t hold much interest to me (There is something that interests me. More on that in a moment.). I also don’t think we need more ‘evidence’ the Zune 2 is coming. We already know that.

I find this list interesting because this indicates there is a substantial change to the hardware of the Zune. I’m trying to figure out what other reason Microsoft would need to release a version 2 of the sync cable. That’s not so great if that’s the case.

All of these new accessories really have me itching to see what the Zune 2 looks like, that’s for sure!

Zune's Foot Is In the Door. What's Next?

"So if all these musings are right, 2.0 will be quite a treat for all of us. However, the folks at Apple are no dummies; they must know what the folks at Redmond are up to. We can see Apple playing the waiting game as we speak, the current 5th generation video iPod has been out since Oct. 12 2005 with minimal updates….we’re coming up on the 2 year anniversary this Oct., and yet we still haven’t seen what Steve has up his sleeves. With both the iPod and Zune looking to update their offerings this year, we’ll finally see the big guns come out – as this is an important time for both products."

Charlie of Zune Corps has written an incredibly insightful article on the direction of the Zune and its competition with the iPod. Charlie disagrees with my sentiments that the most important thing for the Zune right now isn’t Zune 2.0 but a flash Zune. He makes his points so beautifully that I almost agree with him on the absolute importance of Zune 2.0. He does remind me why I fell in love with the Zune in the first place. Microsoft promised a portable media revolution with the Zune. Zune 1.0 definitely has NOT been a revolution. It has been fun though.

So I don’t know what to think. A flash based Zune is what I think is the most important piece to getting the Zune into the hands of millions of people. It doesn’t have to be Zune 2.0 for it to be a home run for Microsoft. But after reading Charlie’s article I do think there is one thing a flash Zune has to be. Zune 1.5. Common Microsoft, you can give it to us.

Complete Zune Survey, Get $10

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 05:44 AM

Keep an eye on your email, everyone. You could be in for a $10 gift card to Amazon, courtesy of the Zune team. According to cliczune, the Zune team is sending out emails for Zune owners to take a survey on the Zune. It’s by invitation only so there's no way to opt into this. I want my $10 gift card so I'm watching my email close! cliczune's take on this is that Microsoft isn't ready with Zune 2.0 yet and they need customer opinions on the first Zune before they start the project.

My personal take is that its just normal market research. The Zune team hardly needs to know what every single person thinks of the first Zune to know what the common complaints and requests are at this point. And really without seeing the survey its hard to say what information they're trying to get. As a current (and happy I might add) Zune owner, my primary concern is NOT Zune 2.0 anyway. It’s Zune 1.4.
