jkOnTheRun Reviews the Vaja Balance Case for Zune

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Accessories" @ 12:00 PM

http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2007/01/jkotr_review_va.html

"If you've ever searched for a stylish mobile device case, you undoubtedly know the name Vaja. Vaja designs and crafts some of the most beautiful leather cases that not only look good, but they protect your mobile mojo on the go. When I bought my Zune, I didn't even give a thought about a case, given that there weren't too many accessories at launch. Sure enough, Vaja had Zune cases right after the Zune launch and they were kind enough to send me a Balance model. Included in the package was the case and three screen protectors; simply remove the blue plastic (shown right) and you have a perfectly clear protector (shown left). In typical Vaja fashion, the case is well designed and simply gorgeous."

The more I see this case, the more I love it. Great design, and great protection - there's little more you could ask for. We've got several to give away in the near future, so stay tuned for details!

Proporta Releases Zune Accessories

Posted by Damion Chaplin in "Zune Accessories" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=559&t_mode=cat

"True to Proporta’s tag line of ‘Everything Covered’, Proporta has released accessories for the Microsoft Zune – a welcome addition to Proporta’s current MP3 range which includes accessories for the entire iPod family, Creative and iRiver MP3 players."

Proporta has released a line of accessories to fit the Zune - and not a moment too soon. My Zune has needed case since I pulled it out of the box the first time. While there aren't any pictures yet, Proporta cases are now for sale on their website. If they're anything like the similar products for other devices that they make (and they very likely are) then they're probably going to be well worth the money. Available now are:

Zune Silicone Case: "Give your Microsoft Zune a tough, protective skin and prevent scratching and impact damage with the Proporta Microsoft Zune Silicone Case. Cut aways give access to ports and controls so that you can use your device in the case."
Zune Alu-Leather Case: "The Proporta Microsoft Zune Alu-Leather Case is beautifully hand crafted to meet the exact specifications of your Microsoft Zune handheld. It features our trademark ‘Screen Saver System’ which uses a sheet of rigid, lightweight aircraft grade Aluminium to line the Case, protecting your delicate device screen from crushing and impact shocks."
Zune Aluminum Case: "The Proporta Microsoft Zune Aluminium Case is beautifully designed and finished to meet the exact specifications of your Microsoft Zune MP3 player. It is made of aircraft grade aluminium with a tough anodised finish and completely lined with soft, protective neoprene."

Plus they have a number of other products that are not specifically made for the Zune but would work very well, like the Mobile Device Sock and the Aquapac Waterproof Case. Personally, I've got my eye on that Aluminum Case. How about you: What's your carrying solution? Still using that slipcase that came in the box?

Vaja's Zune Case: A Teaser Photo

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Accessories" @ 10:00 PM

http://www.vajacases.com

Yesterday I unwrapped a nice Vaja box to find their new Balance case for the Zune. What can I say other than it looks awesome? I wish the Microsoft cradle had more space to allow for Zunes-in-cases to be docked. Pretty short-sighted of them to develop it that way. At any rate, Vaja is going to be offering up 10 fully customized Balance cases to lucky Zune Thoughts readers. Keep your eyes open, the contest will be launching soon enough...

Zune Isn't That Thick

Posted by Michael Boutros in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 01:00 AM

All across the big wide interweb, people are moaning about how thick and big the Zune is. "Like, omg, my iPod/Sansa/Zen is 100x thinner than that brick!" And yes, that's true. However, anyone who has ever owned an iPod with video or similiar device knows that as soon as you buy your device, you better have a case for it because it will get scratched very quickly. It has even been reported that staring at the iPod hard enough will scratch it. By the time you've added on you're monstrous Agent 18 VideoShield, your ultra-thin iPod isn't so thin after all.

I personally have an iPod nano (soon to be a Zune), and I received three defective units before I got my fourth, and by then I learned my lesson and bought a top-notch case that was around 1/4 the price of the iPod itself. Now, when I put my iPod into the case it wasn't so thin anymore, but I don't really care about that kind of stuff.

Just some food for thought.

Belkin Goes Crazy Over Zune

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Accessories" @ 01:30 PM

http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/portable-media/exclusive-zune-accessory-line-from-belkin-212210.php

A great case and car kit: those are two accessories I'm on the lookout for, and the ones that Belkin is preparing for Zune launch day seem like a good fit. A couple are featured below, but if you want to see them all, check out the Gizmodo news post.

TuneBase FM ($79): a car kit with an FM transmitter, programmable memory, and LCD display that plugs into a vehicle's cigarette lighter port (and judging by that green light, we're assuming it makes juice). Also included is a line-out port, if your stereo happens to feature a line-in port.

Folio Kickstand Case ($29): Soft, leathery goodness with a kickstand to enhance that portable video experience.

Other accessories: TunePower ($59), Acrylic Case ($29), Holster Case ($29), Neoprene Sports Armband Case ($29), Sports Jacket Case with Armband ($19), and Zune Screen Protector ($14). If Belkin's Pocket PC screen protectors are any indication, we suggest you stay right away from its Zune screen protector (unless you like a bit of goo).

Vaja makes the most exquisite leather cases on the planet, bar none: their leather quality, awesome colours, and customization options are unmatched by any other company I've ever seen. Vaja has said they'll send me one for review, so now all I need is a Zune to put in it. ;-)

Speck Preparing Tough Case

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Accessories" @ 07:51 PM

http://www.zuneguy.com/2006/10/tough-case.html

Zuneguy's Bill Wittress has posted an image of an upcoming Zune "Tough Case" from Speck, a company well-known for its iPod accessories. Alas, it's nothing more than a teaser at this stage. No details on price, size, or toughness have been revealed. Although, as far as the latter is concerned, we expect a "Tough Case" to live up to its name and withstand the force of a monster truck, Strong Guy's fist, and even Godzilla. We'll fill you in on details as they come in.
