The Zune Software & Logitech Keyboards: Why Doesn't This Work Right?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Talk" @ 08:00 AM

I'm generally a big fan of the Zune desktop software - performance could be better (I swear it's gotten slower with every update) - but I prefer it to Windows Media Player so much that I've installed it on every computer I have, despite the fact that I only sync my Zune with one of those computers. It's really nicely designed software; it makes Windows Media Player look like it was designed 20 years ago. I also like Logitech keyboards and mice; I have five desktop computers in my home, and all of them are running Logitech keyboards and mice. I used to prefer Microsoft mice and keyboards, but I found I had fewer wireless signal problems with Logitech products. So on every desktop computer I have, it's Zune + Logitech. But here's the problem with that math...

Every decent keyboard has dedicated media buttons, making it easy to pause, resume playback, adjust the volume, etc. I use these keys all the time...and therein lies the problem. Read more...

New Logitech X-240 Speakers Have Integrated Zune Cradle

Posted by Damion Chaplin in "Zune Accessories" @ 09:00 PM

"Logitech has announced the Logitech X-240 speaker system for computers, which sports a control center that includes audio controls for a Mac or PC and serves as a cradle for an iPod or other MP3 player, PDA or mobile phone. The cradle, which stows away when not in use, lets you charge, sync and play a portable device with your computer. With plug-and-play functionality, the X-240 speaker system lets you dock, a digital device by simply plugging it into the cradle. When your device of choice is docked, you can charge it and sync or play your digital music. When not in use, the cradle can be stored flush with the control pod. The X-240 speakers include specialized trays for the iPod and Microsoft Zune. In addition to providing a custom fit, these trays help route the iPod or Zune charging cables behind the control pod and out of sight."

OK, now that's cool. I just might have to buy a pair of these. Unfortunately, Logitech's $50 speakers are often hit-and-miss sound quality, but that an integrated Zune cradle would make it worth trying. Yes, they got me with the gimmick. ;-)
