Rap With Bun B

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Content Creation & Management" @ 03:30 PM

In continuing with Zune's support of Bun-B (formerly of UGK), the two have announced a new contest for budding armchair MCs to test their skills atop one of the Texas rapper's high-hat and bass-heavy beats. The skippy, Houston-flavored instrumental currently lacks any real interesting sounds, but that's where you come in! Rap, sing, sample, and drum atop the beat, just make sure you've got a) talent, and b) permission from the owners of your materials.

Interested parties can download the horrendously-titled Rap With Bun B (it sounds like the title of the accompanying CD to Alfonso Ribeiro's breakdance set) from the Marketplace, and add their own flow using any audio recording program. Winners (U.S. residents, 18+, drawn at random) will receive a round-trip ticket to Houston to take part in an upcoming compilation project. Read the press release, submit your tracks to Rap-A-Lot records, and may the best rapper win!

The Zune is the Bomb

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 08:32 PM

The Zune has inspired people to do many different things to show their love for Microsoft’s great little DAP. Maybe they integrated it into their ride. Or maybe they got a tattoo (or two) to show their affection for the Zune. And now, joining these other shows of affection, is quite appropriately, a song spotted by Zunerama. MySpace member Grinace has composed a rap song that sings the Zune’s praises. (No pun intended. Stop groaning!)

If you want to listen to his song, follow this link and prepare yourself to say ‘wow’. Here’s a sample of the lyrics :

" We all know the Zune is the bomb,
an Mp3 player, no need for CD ROM, a.k.a. the ipod killer,
make you dance like you in a scene of Michael Jackson's Thriller,
you can put it horizontal or vertical like a pillar..."

Zune Getting a Bad Rap?

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Talk" @ 03:00 AM

http://blog.wired.com/music/2006/11/dvd_jon_agrees_.html

"The Microsoft Zune doesn't let you use the Creative Commons license or play stuff from the iTunes store, the pricing system for purchasing music by the song is a little weird, and its chassis isn't quite as tough as I'd thought initially. But after using the Zune for two weeks and a day and being pretty satisfied with its design, features, and performance, I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading about it. People really seem to have a problem with this thing -- especially the brown model."

Wired makes a good point about the Zune. Despite all of its shortcomings (and I admit that there are a lot of them), it isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. There's no doubt that it's playing a game of catch-up and it has a long way to go before it eats into Apple's marketshare, but the iPod needs a few tweaks here and there if it's to stay solid in the long run. Both devices aren't perfect. It's a battlefield out there, and may the best one win.
