What Volvoshine Got Right

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Talk" @ 01:56 PM

http://t03.us/2009/08/just-how-accu...ine-his-source/

"So Over the past few months a big source of information about the Zune HD has been Volvoshine (Ryan Rea). But the question comes to hand on just how accurate he actually was. I Will decided if it was True or not and then check out the chart at the bottom…"

Now that we know most of what there is to know about the new Zune HD, let's take a look at what infamous leaker Volvoshine got right, wrong, and is still to be announced. A number of the things he got wrong were a little saddening, but not entirely unexpected (bigger screen and five times the battery life?), whereas the price of the 16 GB player was a pleasant surprise ($220, instead of the rumored $250 to $280). We have yet to see about games or rumored Netflix compatibility, but hopefully we'll hear about these in the next few weeks.

Zune HD Coming In September?

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune News" @ 12:10 PM

http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/ne...n-september.ars

Paul Thurrott, a guy who should know, says the Zune HD is coming to us this September. NeoWin backs this up, saying Amazon will ship the device in September. Remember that this is all vapor until the device is in your hands, so take everything here with a healthy helping of salt. Check out our other coverage of Zune HD (including rumors of an international launch and Tegra graphics) to see what all this Zune HD hooplah is all about.

More Zune Tease From Microsoft

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Zune Talk" @ 04:00 AM

http://twitter.com/officethemovie

Microsoft has a new Twitter account called Office The Movie that is giving info and registration links for the tech preview of Office 2010 later this year. They also have two posts about the Zune though. I am not sure what the Zune has to do with Office, unless there is either a Zune Phone in the works that will sync with Office in some way, but MS keeps denying a Zune Phone. Another option is the Zune engine in Windows Mobile, replacing Windows Media Player. Here is the specific information:

  • Roughly 3pm ET on May 11th - June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers.
  • Roughly 2am ET on May 12th - @Gilly2468 @Chimerica @clubdirthill @serenecloud New product launch, that's all I'm allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre. :)

Make of it what you will, and follow OfficeTheMovie on Twitter to see if they give any more information.

Update: This Twitter account was a fake, which you can see if you look at it now, so once again, any rumors of Zune Phone or similar are dashed. Sorry for the alert. Move along. Nothing to see here. These aren't the droid you are looking for. For what it is worth, Microsoft now has an official Twitter account for Office 2010. When I posted this, Microsoft was linking to the fake account.

Zune VideoX: Finally?

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune News" @ 05:44 AM

http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1341

"Zune VideoX is not Zune Marketplace revisited, sources say. Instead, it is Microsoft’s attempt to apply the lessons learned with the success of the Xbox Live Marketplace to the Zune market, said one source who asked not to be named. It would be a single hub where Zune users could buy and download music, videos, TV shows and more entertainment content."

I don't know about the rest of you but this is the thing I have really been waiting for. Regardless of the veracity of the rumor, this is the killer feature that Zune hasn't delivered on. The hardware itself is more than capable of providing a full multimedia experience. Unfortunately it has never been supported by the Zune Marketplace.

Its never made sense to me either. Microsoft has had deals to put out movies and TV shows on the 360 for a while now. To me it seems like a no brainer!

Of course there's no mention here of what I consider the ultimate evolution of media consumption - video subscription. Given that there's talk about this with Netflix and Blockbuster to name a couple, I would hope that Microsoft would be integrating any future video services with the Zune Pass plan in some way.

I don't know if these VideoX rumors are true or not but I have to imagine that Microsoft is trying to get videos on the Zune somehow!
