Speck Releases PixelSkin Case for the Zune HD

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Accessories" @ 12:09 PM

http://www.speckproducts.com/produc...kin/zune-hd/205

"Add the simple, stylish protection of PixelSkin to the smart, multifarious genius of your new Zune HD. Textured, angular design and soft silicone material are grippy in-hand and create a cool armored look. A "grip groundbreaker," PixelSkin has been road tested and user-approved, as an ever-popular protector of the iPhone and numerous other portable devices. Surf the web, stream music and video or flip through your set lists knowing your Zune is in tune and protected from inevitable tumbles and fumbles lying ahead!"

If you're looking for a case to protect your Zune HD from scratches and damage, the PixelSkin ($24.95 USD) looks like it will do the job nicely - though it does nothing to protect the screen. The question is, does the screen need protecting? The Zune HD has a Corning Gorilla Glass screen that's quite resistant to damage, so it doesn't need the same type of protection that a plastic screen would.

Where'd The Speck Zune 30 Cases Go?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Talk" @ 02:37 PM

When the first-gen Zunes came out, Speck cases made a bunch of cases for them (remember this one?). Speck sent me a few of them to check out last year, and I unfortunately never go around to reviewing them. I figured that since there's a million plus Zune 30's out there, it would be worthwhile to review the cases and give them away as well. Imagine my surprise when I went to the Speck Web site and searched for their Zune 30 cases and found none - it seems those cases didn't last long in the product cycle. There wasn't even a listing for the Zune under their "iPod & Audio" category. Today as I was writing up this story, I checked the Speck site again, and look what I saw:

No products are listed for any of the Zune categories, so these must be "coming soon" cases. We'll see what Speck comes up with...and in the meantime, since there's no point in me reviewing cases that you can no longer purchase, how about I just give them away? Stay tuned for a giveaway post tomorrow!

Speck Introduces Active Sport Lite Armband for Zune

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Accessories" @ 11:00 PM

http://www.cliczune.com/2007/01/new_zune_case_f.html

"Speck is introducing a new "Active Sport" Lite Armband for Microsoft Zune. The new Zune case is a custom neoprene armband perfect for using your Zune while running on a treadmill or a trail. The case also comes with a sewn-in screen protector. The light-weight, adjustable armband fits arms 8” to 23” (23”? That’s on hell of an arm!). One cool feature of the case is when your workout is done you can detach the case from the strap for instant portability! The Zune case comes with a 1 year warranty and will have a retail price of $29.95."

Hmm, I can't say the idea of a spinning platter strapped to one's arm tickles my fancy, but if having your Zune with you in the gym or on a hiking expedition is an absolute must, then Speck's upcoming Active Sport Lite Armband may suit you. A release date hasn't been announced, though I'm guessing we won't have long to wait.

Speck Preparing Tough Case

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Accessories" @ 07:51 PM

http://www.zuneguy.com/2006/10/tough-case.html

Zuneguy's Bill Wittress has posted an image of an upcoming Zune "Tough Case" from Speck, a company well-known for its iPod accessories. Alas, it's nothing more than a teaser at this stage. No details on price, size, or toughness have been revealed. Although, as far as the latter is concerned, we expect a "Tough Case" to live up to its name and withstand the force of a monster truck, Strong Guy's fist, and even Godzilla. We'll fill you in on details as they come in.
