Engadget Gets Hands-On Time with the Zune HD

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Hardware" @ 09:43 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/...ne-hd-hands-on/

"We managed to track down the beast and toy with it a bit, and we must say... the thing kind of rocks. In your hand the Zune HD has a nice, solid feel, with good heft to it and a surprisingly thin profile. The OLED screen looks absolutely stunning -- even at severe viewing angles, colors were super bright, edges were crisp, and text looked beautiful."

The lads at Engadget didn't get a video, but they did get a bunch of photos from all sorts of angles - and the Zune HD looks just as drop-dead sexy as I thought it would. It looks very slim and sleek, and more attractive than the rendered photos we posted the other day. Definitely worth checking out the gallery!

Steve Ballmer Shows Off the Zune HD

Johnny-On-The-Spot, Joshua Topolsky, managed to get a bit of a demo of the new Zune HD from none other than Steve Ballmer himself. Other than saying that the OLED screen is "gorgeous", Topolsky doesn't have much to say about the Zune HD. There's a gallery with some photos that tell a bit more of a story - there looks to be some sort of button at the top, and on Ballmer's Zune HD there's a Zune logo on the lower left - I suspect it's just a sticker indicating that this is a pre-production unit. Take a peek at the photos and tell me if you notice anything else of note...

Engadget Contest: Gears of War 2 Zune!

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune News" @ 09:35 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/07/...veaway-edition/

"Included in this podcast is a first-ever (for Engadget at least) on-air unboxing. That's right, hear the sounds of a Gears of War 2 Zune getting ripped open. As a treat to our faithful listeners, we'll be giving away that very special edition 120GB Zune! Follow the instructions after the break to learn how to make it yours."

Engadget unboxed the Gears of War 2 Zune on their recent podcast. That’s not the best part though. Engadget decided they’d rather give it away than keep it for themselves so if you want one, now is the time to act! This is, unfortunately, only a contest available to people in the United States but if you’re a Gears of War fan then this is definitely a contest for you!

Follow this link for all the contest details! Act quickly though since you only have until Friday, November 14th.

Engadget's Video Walkthrough of the Zune

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Talk" @ 12:05 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/03/zune-complete-interface-walkthrough-video/

Good ol' Engadget has posted a video walkthrough of the Zune - covering just about every feature that you could poke a stick at. Seeing all this in action makes me want to play with a Zune now. Oh, the agonizing wait. ;-)

engadget Posts Zune Player and Software Gallery

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/03/microsoft-zune-player-and-software-hands-on-gallery/

"It's been a long, arduous trip prying our way into Microsoft's inner workings this past year, but we finally got a chance to sit down with all three Zunes and get some serious play time with the damned things. It may be a little early to give final impressions, but let's just say what we saw is a very decent start. The player was responsive and fast; all functions worked flawlessly and without delay. The software and storefront has a lot of new, unique features that make browsing and finding music a more engrossing, enjoyable experience. Obviously Apple is the game to beat -- and a tough game at that -- but something tells us this little player's got some fight in it. We're not going to talk too much about the device itself, namely because we'd rather show you; later today expect a walkthrough of every nook and cranny of the device, and a demo of its wireless functionality. But in the mean time, click on for loads more high res shots of the Zune family, software, Marketplace, and, um, executive briefcase."

It's a good thing Ryan Block lives so far away from me, because I'd totally mug him to get some hands-on time with the Zune at this point. At any rate, the engadget article has some nice pics and details about the Zune desktop software, though I'm still waiting for someone (anyone) to give me a screen by screen breakdown of the Zune desktop software. The devil is in the details for a product like this, and the sync/desktop experience is really where all of other media player makers have fallen down flat. The Zune has to be light years better than what Creative + Windows Media Player 10 offered the world or it's in for trouble.
