Get Extra Device Power with the Tekkeon myPower MP3750 External Battery

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 07:30 AM

Please click on the video title above to watch it on YouTube in 1080p full screen video.

Who doesn't' want more battery life from their mobile device? I think we all do. I've been on a personal quest for years to find the best multipurpose external battery that I could find. I've looked at a few of them of the years (such as this one, and this one), but every one I've looked at has had limited functionality in some way. Usually it's that it's not compatible with whatever new laptop I'm using. The Tekkeon myPower MP3750, which sells for $119 in the Digital Home Thoughts Amazon.com store, is versatile battery in that it not only serves as a power source for a laptop, but with the USB port it can power a variety of devices. I was eager to take a look at it, and for the most part have been quite impressed with it. Read more...

Sunny Days: Staying Connected with the Monaco Solar Cell Charger

Posted by Don Tolson in "Windows Phone Accessories" @ 07:00 AM

Product Category: Accessories -- Solar powered cell phone charger
Manufacturer: Monaco
Where to Buy: WirelessGround.com
Price: $79.95 USD (regularly, but may be on sale...)
Specifications: Battery Capacity: 1800mAh; Weight: 93.5 grams / 3.3 oz; Dimensions: 55.5 x 105.8 x 14.5mm.

Pros:

  • Convenient, lightweight;
  • Charges quickly in sunlight;
  • Suitable for almost any type of USB-powered device.

Cons:

  • Regular price is a bit high, but vendor seems to be having discount sales;
  • Depending upon the consumption of your unit, the battery may only provide one day of use.

Summary: There are lots of emergency power accessories and options available for phones, games systems, music players, etc. but most suffer from a common shortcoming -- lack of power when you need them most, far away from a wall socket. Enter Monaco, with a different spin on a solution. Instead of providing just a battery or set of solar cells, why not combine them into a single package - a wall or solar chargeable battery pack!

Contest Time, Win a Gomadic Charger !

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Thoughts Site Updates" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.gomadic.com/

The Gomadic chargers are very slick, and we recently did a Quick Look on the 2-in-1 Charger pictured above. If you aren't familiar, the system uses what they call "Tip Exchange" so all you need is one cable and a tip for each device, instead of having to carry around separate charging cables. They pretty much cover every device know to man, or at least it seems that way (the brand list is here).

Now the folks at Gomadic are being generous enough to give away four (4) of their 2-in-1 Charging cables as well as two tips to be chosen by each winner. Since Gomadic has such wide coverage on devices, this is a network-wide contest. To win, all you have to do is go to the Tip Exchange page and pick two of the charging tips you want to go with your 2-in-1 Charger. Post the two numbers along with a reply to this post and you are entered. You MUST post the two tip numbers in your reply or your entry won't be counted.

One post per person, and the contest closes on Friday the 19th of March at 12pm Pacific time, GMT -7. This contest is world-wide with Gomadic providing the shipping. Remember that all first posts in our system are held in moderation, so if this contest entry is your first post, please wait up to 48 hours before getting concerned if your post hasn't shown up yet - it will. Winners will be contacted via private forum message, so have email notifications turned on. Winners will have 72 hours to claim their prize.

Monster SlimCharger: Power For Your Zune

Posted by Aaron Roma in "Zune Accessories" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.monstercables.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4256

The Monster SlimCharger is a AC charger for your Zune, allowing you to recharge your battery without requiring a PC and USB port. The SlimCharger is perfect for recharging your Zune on the go, away from your Zune’s “home” PC. When Monster describes this unit as low-profile, they aren't kidding. The AC adapter is very slim, thinner than the Zune itself. The prongs fold down into the charger, providing for an even sleeker profile when pocketing or packing the charger. The SlimCharger re-juiced my fully depleted Zune in about two hours. Unfortunately, the charger doesn't plug directly into the Zune. The SlimCharger requires the use of a Zune USB sync cable. At the opposite end of the SlimCharger is a USB port which your sync cable plugs in to, the sync cable then plugging into your Zune's sync port. Adding the sync cable to the SlimCharger's six foot cable leaves you with an almost unwieldy 10 feet of cable.

Traveling with the SlimCharger will either require you to take your sync cable with you, or the purchase of an additional sync cable to keep with the charger. I would have much rather preferred being able to either plug the SlimCharger directly into the Zune, or have the included cable double as a USB sync cable which you could unplug from the AC brick. This would have made the $29.95 SlimCharger a much better value. You can pick up a SlimCharger at Amazon [Affiliate], currently on sale.

DLO Expands Zune Offerings

Posted by Aaron Roma in "Zune Accessories" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.cliczune.com/2007/02/new_zune_access.html

"We already like DLO’s Zune cases but we might simply love their new Zune charger and FM transmitter. The company is expanding their Zune accessory line with a car charger and a Zune FM transmitter."

DLO has added a FM transmitter and a car charger to their line of Zune compatible accessories. The FM transmitter is a tethered solution, unlike the Zune branded transmitter (which attaches directly to the Zune). One nice feature of this tethered solution is the cable is actually removable and can be used as a charge and sync cable. Check out the above link to get a rundown of these new accessories from Cliczune.
