Zune Originals Now Offering Custom Etching, Including Xbox Avatars

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Hardware" @ 09:51 PM

http://www.electronista.com/article...s.xbox.avatars/

"Microsoft today opened up its Zune Originals customization to take custom images. Zune HD buyers can either upload a photo of their own or use their Xbox Live avatars in one of several different poses. The customizations are etched in grayscale and, for photos, allow four different etch styles."

Want to REALLY customize your Zune? Well, now you can with Zune Originals offering whatever image you want on the back of your Zune - including your avatar from Xbox Live! Though I just discovered that it won't show you "licensed content" - so my awesome Deadliest Warrior Samurai outfit can't get printed on the back. Sort of lame. :-(

A Zune With School Spirit?

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 07:00 AM

http://blogs.technet.com/migreene/archive/2007/09/19/1979608.aspx

I love all things technology. There is something I love more than technology though and that’s the University of Florida. The athletics of course are the most visible thing others see but I am a Gator through and through. I thought of getting the Colorware treatment on my Zune so that I could have mine in Orange & Blue. After Jason’s very mediocre experience, however, that idea went out the window.

There may be a better option for me one day. The Zune team seems interested in providing branded Zunes to schools who are interested. According to Michael Greene, Zune is going to be working with large institutions to brand devices for their own uses. They do present some interesting possibilities of things to do with it. Such as trading flash cards between incoming freshmen. Do they SERIOUSLY think that’s a good idea?

Other, better, ideas include preloading school songs and videos from professors. Those ideas are certainly more appealing. If Florida offered a branded Zune through the bookstore I’d buy one pretty quick and would love if it included songs or better yet, videos. As far as how interesting this is to the general populace? Well, it would be nice if anyone could special order a Zune with a logo on it.

Lilsalmon Gives 2007 Dodge Nitro a Custom Zune Treatment

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 08:22 PM

Jeff Gordon has nothing on Zune Thoughts member lilsalmon. While Jeff has a Zune dock integrated into his dash, lilsalmon has a setup that looks like it came straight out of the factory. You can only dream of having a setup like he installed in his 2007 Dodge Nitro. I’ll let his YouTube video speak for itself.

ZuneRama has a couple other pictures on their site as well. One thing that I wouldn’t mind seeing is some instructions on how we can do it ourselves.

ZuneVibe.com Gets Their Colorware Zune

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Hardware" @ 10:35 AM

http://zunevibe.blogspot.com/2007/06/colorwares-custom-zune-service-is.html

"I couldn't wait any longer. My FedEx tracking information from Colorware alerted me that my Zune was on the delivery truck and scheduled for drop-off sometime before 5pm. I heard the truck pull up in front of my house and I ran out onto the patio to meet the driver - I hope her feelings were not hurt because I may have ripped the box out of her hands with a bit too much excitement! When I opened the box all I could do is laugh out loud and cheer for several minutes. My Zune has been transformed into something mind blowing. The only way to describe the feeling I got at first sight of my Zune was like the time when I was 9 years old and seeing a Ferrari at a custom car show."

The folks over at ZuneVibe.com received their Colorware Zune, and man does it look good! I'm waiting to get mine back - it should be soon - and I'm sure I'll be just as eager as they were to rip open the box. The finish on this thing looks awesome...

Zune Invades Forza Motorsport 2

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Talk" @ 05:30 AM

These days, everyone is talking about Forza Motorsport 2. If it's not about the action on the tracks, it's about custom paint jobs. Check out the Zune-tagged Evolution VIII above, and a few more over at the Forza forums. If any of you ever get around to creating a Zune Thoughts one, let us know and we'll give it some front-page love.

Make Your Own Custom Colored Zune

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 06:19 AM

http://www.colorwarepc.com/products/Select_Zune.aspx

A while back I mentioned that I thought it would be really great if Microsoft offered custom color options for the Zune. Given the case construction, it appeared to be something that would be relatively easy to provide. Engadget has spotted this very option over at Colorware, who makes custom cases for just about everything under the sun. Now they have added the Zune to their lineup. I’m sure it was in response to my personal desire!

I’ve already been over there playing with their customization options. Since you can set the front, back, dpad and center button with one of any 29 colors there are 707,281 different combinations you could end up with. I’d love to see one of these in person but it’s really a cool idea! You can either send in your own Zune for $74 or buy a brand new one with the customization for $325.
